This tree is a large part of the Shipibo life and is inside many of their mythologies and stories. It is considered to have saved the Shipibos in a huge natural disaster when the ground shook and they held tight to this tree. It is very hardy, survives floods and droughts, and continues to produce vitamin filled fruits for the children. It is used medicinally and dispensed for children for diarrhea and infection.
